Attention pundits: there will (probably) be no switch
John C. Dvorak has been predicting Apple's big switch from Motorola processors to Intel processors for a couple of months now. Frankly, I don't see this happening, and fortunately I don't have to explain why, because this guy has done it for me.
My favorite quote:
No matter how badly people clamor for it, Apple is never going to release a version of Mac OS X that runs on standard Wintel PC hardware. Whether it’s possible or not, it isn’t going to happen. A frequent comment regarding this rumor is something like “I’d love a version of Mac OS X that ran on my PC.” Sure you would, you cheap bastard. Apple’s Switch campaign is an attempt to get PC users to buy thousands of dollars of Apple hardware, not hundreds of dollars of Apple software.
In sorta-related news, I've been learning a lot about Windows lately, since our new PC guy is just getting on his feet. I must say I like XP a lot, you know, for a Windows system. There are lots of things that just work, which is a huge step up from Windows 98. I still don't understand, though, why my PC thinks I have three different laser printers, when all I've done is switch where on the USB chain my single printer plugs in.
