This morning was a game of "wait for the cable guy," which thankfully didn't take long at all. A new cable line was run into the house in addition to the two existing lines, and I got a new cable modem in the bargain. Unfortunately, my router doesn't seem to work with the new modem. To lapse into geek speak for a second, I think the new modem has registered the MAC address of the first computer it was hooked up to (the Windows XP PC), and in order to get the router working I'll have to fool the modem into believing that the router is the PC by manually adjusting the router's MAC address. Fortunately, that's an easy thing to do. Then I'll be able to get the Vonage box and the Airport network going. I hope.
OK, end of geek speak. The cats have mostly come out of hiding. When the cable guy showed up, Otis retreated to one of the lower kitchen cabinets, which just made me laugh and say, "Daddy's gonna kill Ralphie!"
Living in the house right now with the skittish cats is like living with a pair of ghosts. I can hear their collar tags jangling, but when I walk to the room from which I heard the noise, there's no cat to be found.
Tonight, we discombobulate the remaining electronics and entertainment stuff. Tomorrow, we move furniture.
