Whatever happened to the Friday Five?

Here's my latest toy, procured mostly for business reasons: the iPod. I bought one of the older models, refurbished, so that I could keep Stomp Tokyo and its various sites in a highly portable format that was faster than carrying around on all those Zip disks. The 5GB hard disk inside the iPod is plenty fast enough and roomy, too, so long as I don't gunk it up with an overabundance of MP3s.

I have listened to some music on it, but mostly it's a tool instead of a toy. Boring, I know.

Book sales have slumped, which is to be expected after the initial push. We're hovering at about 36,000 on the Amazon sales meter, and I haven't sold one direct since we stopped the free shipping offer. I'll probably reinstate it in October. That, combined with some of the press we will be getting (hopefully) between now and Christmas, will help us unload the remaining copies in storage. Fingers crossed. Meanwhile I'm still sending out mail, filling out postcards, sending out the occasional press kit.

Teresa and Tim are having an estate sale to help clean out Teresa's mom's old house; we'll be taking some of our stuff over tonight to add to the party. We've been waiting for an opportunity like this for a while, as some things simply cannot be sold on eBay and shipped easily. (19" TV, anyone?) So that's my Saturday right there. Haven't done the garage sale thing in a while, so it should be fun.

Should have some word on Christina's dissertation defense date soon.

Groovy - a magazine takes notice

Issue #10 of Total Movie & Entertainment magazine has a blurb about the book on page nine. It ain't much, but it's a mention in a movie magazine, and that's good enough.

The big birthday bash went about as expected last night; we filled up about a third of the restaurant with our group, sixteen people strong, and enjoyed the fine Anna's cuisine. Our bud Teresa, out of the goodness of her heart, typed up some menus for them, which I believe is the first time they've ever forgone the hand-written variety. I always thought the hand-written menus were part of the charm of the place, but everything changes and I will admit it was easier to read the darn thing.

Afterwards we meandered next door to the Globe, where I suffered an embarrassment of riches in the birthday present department, and that didn't even count the stack of DVDs (and a book) that Christina had waiting for me at home. Thanks, guys. The surprises of the evening were definitely the Bettie Page bobble-head doll and the 3-D Viewmaster from Rob & Mike. I was also impressed to see the appearance of so many Ernest movies. Yee-haw, Vern.

Today I think we'll be meeting Tim & Teresa downtown at the Pier for the Columbia Restaurant's 1905 day, during which they roll back prices to something closer to the original days of the Pier. I've never eaten at the Columbia so it should be a treat.
