Thanksgiving Traditions
When you're away from home for Thanksgiving, you figure out which traditions are important to you -- at least at that moment. While I won't be going out to Baskin-Robbins to pick up some ice cream turkeys or baking up batches of Chex mix, I will be attempting my father's famous cheese ball. Here's the recipe he gave me. (Warning: I don't know how many beers each of us had consumed by the point I jotted this down in my Visor during Thanksgiving a few years ago. I'll let you know how it turns out.)
Rob Holland's Holiday Cheese Ball
16 oz cream cheese
8 oz sharp cheddar, grated
4 oz blue cheese
approx 3 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
Using the steel blade in your food processor, blend the ingredients until it reaches desired consistency. (Basically, until it's mixed together enough to mash into a ball.)
Roll into a ball, then roll in finely chopped pecans until covered. Wrap in Saran wrap, Chill until ready to serve.
Traditionally served with crackers -- Triscuits, Wheat Thins, that sort of thing. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
