Sweet, sweet justice
Eckerd alumni will share my not-so-fond memories of the school's president, Peter Armacost. Armacost was famous for quotes like "Eckerd College is a corporation, not a democracy," which of course endeared him to students like me. A few years after we graduated, Peter was asked to resign over some funny business with the school's endowment. A couple of million bucks got spent without authorization? Whoopsie!
I bring this up because Christina gave a talk at Eckerd on Wednesday and returned with two pieces of gossip:
1. Eckerd's new library will be named the Peter Armacost library. This doesn't bother me so much because no one calls libraries by their names, they just say "the library." So it's not as if he's leaving a lasting legacy.
2. Armacost's new job is as the president of a college... in Pakistan. Or he will be, if the government of Pakistan ever returns the college to the Presbyterian Church. I guess ol' Pete served faithfully enough that the Church was still willing to give him a job, albeit one that is in the college administrator's equivalent of Siberia.
Chew on those tidbits for a while, kids.
