Well at least I'm not insane
That weird tingly sensation in my ankle? Near as I can tell, it was all about my socks. OK, now you've had your laugh. Let's move on.
Libraries not dead yet
Yes, there are some resources you just can't get online. Literary Market Place is one of them. This publication from R.R. Bowker takes a lot of the legwork out of finding publications and radio/TV shows to help promote your book, and has information about every other aspect of publishing as well. Unfortunately, it retails for $300! Get this, it's so heavy that Amazon has a special shipping note on its page: "Due to this item's unusual size or weight, it requires special handling and will ship separately from other items in your order."
OK, I take it back. You can get LMP online – for $389 a year. Eep! No thanks, I'll go down to the library and type the relevant entries into the iBook instead. Maybe when we're selling thousands of copies of our multiple titles per year I'll think about that subscription.
Another good reference is Working Press of the Nation, which lists all kinds of publications, including internal magazines (apparently some industries have fascinating "insider" mags) and bizarre newsletters. Did you know that, until recently, there was a newsletter called The Bullet which provided information to fans of The Andy Griffith Show? The Internet is killing off a lot of these little newsletters, which is kind of sad, but hey, now there are a lot more Mayberry RFD fans getting in touch with one another. (By the way, the "bullet" refers to the one bullet that Andy allowed his deputy, Barney Fife, to carry for his gun. The bullet kept residence in Barney's shirt pocket.)
