A Quick Word about AB
Over 400 people – probably more like 500 – showed up for the big Alton Brown signing at an Atlanta Borders store the other night. The setup was pathetic. There were about 50 chairs set up in front of a desk and podium, and all of the seating was taken by the time Geoffrey and I arrived at 5:30 or so. The event was scheduled for 7, and actually got pushed back till 8 because somebody had flown to New York for the day to tape a Rosie O'Donnell show. (It airs June 19, by the way.)
So by the time he actually showed up, the line wound behind us and all through the upper level of the store. There were people standing on each others' shoulders just to catch a glimpse of the guy. We were in a pretty good position (right next to the chairs) and got to enjoy his presence a bit more closely than our less fortunate brethren in the back. He started signing books at about 9, and was probably there until midnight.
This is the only picture I've got for the moment. (If you look closely, you can see that he has defaced his own photo and written "Bam!" Emeril-style, on it) I took more, but I'm on vacation and I'll get the others uploaded when I get home. I got some good pix on the eyemodule, too, and got the man to sign my Visor (in the drawing program, natch). I'll share more about this adventure and others on my next post.
