A Very Full Day
Events lately have been of the tedious variety. At least it seems that way when I think about writing them down. I suppose the weird sensation I've been having in my ankle lately might be interesting, in a weird sort of way. Little tingly blip-blip-blip feelings, like bubbles moving through a vein. Preliminary research on the web suggests that I should take some sodium naproxen and hope it goes away in a couple of weeks. It's an infuriating feeling, not knowing why my ankle suddenly goes all tingly every minute or two, but why on Earth should you care about that? It's the kind of thing that could drive a person mad in a very short period, but it's not exactly riveting personal journalism.
Had drinks with Jyotika and her best-friend-from-high-school Liz, who is in town visiting. We spent quite a bit of time trying to fathom the mysteries of the British school system, including these things called "forms," which are roughly equivalent to grades, but can apparently last a couple of years or more. We sat at the Harp and Thistle for a few minutes before moving on to Woody's and then Philthy Phil's, which was the backup plan when we found that The Sloppy Pelican was overrun with Eckerd students. (I checked the cars in the parking lot – they all had Eckerd parking stickers on them.)
Before that I spent a few hours in a meeting with my boss, pondering the future of the USGS and the Center for Coastal Geology in particular, including the backup of desktop computers and the fact that my annual trip to New York for Macworld Expo may not happen this year. Dammit, if we weren't bombing hell out of the Afghan people, I might be able to go see Steve Jobs unveil whatever it is he's going to unveil this year.
If life were fair, Barbara Edwards would be the Queen of England. But even that isn't so great a gig these days.
