Bread came out OK, if a bit dense. I think I did kill off a bit too much of the yeast, or perhaps those darn active-dry yeast packets are just not what was needed. The recipe just called for "a packet," which is a pretty stupid unit of measure. Next time I'll try guesstimating with some of the instant yeast in the freezer, which I've gotten great results from in the other breads I've done.
This loaf (what's left of it, anyway) is destined for the office lounge. We'll let someone else eat my experiment.
Christina says she's grateful that I didn't take a "before" picture of the fridge. If only I had been thinking, I could have really embarrassed her! Ah well, there's always the freezer compartment, which still needs doing.
