Jekyll

As most of you know we spent a couple of days on Jekyll Island this week. Mommy had a business meeting, and I went along to play. Jekyll, as those of you who visited during school projects know, is a semi-pristine island protected by the state from excessive development, so it had lots of nature, some quasi-nature (golf courses) and one junky strip mall. It has maybe a dozen hotels, and we stayed in a rundown seedy place that was in bad need of renovation. However, our balcony faced the ocean, so I guess we were expected to be grateful.

The beach at Jekyll is problematical, having eroded significantly, and heavily armored with riprap. At high tide in many places there is no beach at all.

I played one of my semi-annual rounds of golf, and took a lot of pictures as I wandered about. The most interesting spot is the driftwood beach at one end of the island that is famous from so many photos.

We got home Friday night, and yesterday went to a hosta sale at a local grower that is held every spring. We came home with eight new specimens. Now we have to plant them.
