If you're a Deanie, and haven't been over to Darn-Tootin' in a while, there's an interesting post up. Frankly, I think Dubya is a little smug monkey, but let's not quibble. Also, for you Teletubbies lovers, a link to Boobah. Who programs these things?
We rode the ferry back to Vancouver today from Victoria. Those suckers are big. The one we were on, similar to the one that passed us going the other way (below) holds 470 cars:
Here's what Canucks do while riding the hour and a half across the sound:
When we got back over on this side, we visited a southern suburb where there was a fabric store. It's the only one I've ever seen that has a horsie:
Tomorrow is our last day on the ground. We're getting a little travel-weary, but we'll find some fun stuff to do downtown.
We have spent the last two days on Vancouver Island, which is right up there in that little notch cut out of the northwestern corner of Washington State. The locals like to say that there is a streak of climate on the island that is "Mediterranean," and there are indeed a lot of tropical plants here, but it hasn't exactly been sunny.
We took the ferry over from Vancouver
to city called Nanaimo, about 110 km north of Victoria. We visited a quilt shop there, had lunch at a local fast food emporium named Tim Horton's, and then drove down through the mountains to Victoria, which features itself a reproduction of an English capitol, still in the glories of Empire. Chief symbol of that is the Empress Hotel, which was once visited by Rudyard Kipling:
We shopped the town, which is kind of an English-Canadian Epcot, and had high tea at a local tea emporium festooned with photos of the Queen herself. The town also has wonderful chocolate shops and bakeries. Jennifer, this photo is for you:
