We spent our first full day here yesterday, and a full day it was. We went for an early morning walk in the rainforest, down to the local lighthouse. Bet you all never thought you'd see your mother on the Appalachian Trail, but here it is:
She's not exactly dressed for hiking, but hey. Neither was I.
At the end of this trail was the lighthouse itself:
After our morning walk, we drove to several quilt shops, then had lunch at a colorful local neighborhood on Granville Island. Great views of the city from there:
As well a views of local denizens (or tourists, who can tell?)

Ghosts of Furniture Past
When Christina and I first moved back to Florida, these pieces of family furniture were given to us from the store of stuff in the basement. After seven years of service, however, we find that they really don't fit into our lives. Each of them needs some piece of repair work done -- a drawer in each of the dressers has been broken since before we received them, and the wing supports on the table are pretty weak -- but they are otherwise serviceable and probably wouldn't take that much to bring them back into shape.
The problem is, we're not really dresser-drawer type people. Our bedroom is tiny and most of our clothes fit into a single closet, so the dressers end up being storage for non-clothes type items better suited to boxes or shelves. The table, if I recall correctly, was once the family breakfast room table, and though it makes a serviceable packing table, the wonky wings make it less than ideal.
I have no idea if these pieces are worth anything, either monetarily or sentimentally to anyone else in the family, but if no one expresses a desire to give them a home we'll see about selling them in the big yard sale this spring. I'd be happy to load them into a U-Haul and take them as far as Atlanta if anyone is interested. You can click the pictures for larger images.
Benjamin and Pamela and their entourages all left yesterday to return to school. Benjamin via Orangeburg, where Ginger lives. Benjamin called to say he made it OK. Haven't heard from Pamela, but we haven't had any calls from the Mississippi State Police, either, so we're assuming all went well. She and her roommate and another girl really filled up the car with junk.
Meanwhile, Calvin is heartbroken. None of his downstairs bed buddies were there last night and he had to resort to sleeping at Mommy's feet. Her comment this morning was "He's huge, isn't he?" Yeah, and heavy. Cybill does not cotton to his presence upstairs, at all.
