from a recent issue of Poetry magazine:
"She has perfect teeth, a straight
spine, and thighs that make frat boys bang
petulant fists during beer pong."
i guess the day of abab rhyme scheme is over.

I am now a true American

I won a radio contest this morning on 99x. Two round trip tickets on AirTran anywhere in the US they fly. Perhaps it's time for me to finally see California.

Graveyard Dirt

This is the graveyard of Christ Church Frederica on St. Simons Island, where we spent a couple of days last week. While Mommy was making a presentation to a conference at Epworth-by-the-Sea, I drove down to the church and walked through the gardens and the graveyard in the very swampy tropical weather, thinking how creepy it would be at night.

This church is the oldest Episcopal church in Georgia, established in 1736. Both Charles Wesley and John Wesley acted as ministers here. It's still an active church, and has published a very nice church cookbook, with lots of seafood recipes.

The beach at St. Simons is somewhat problematical, as it has eroded to the point that at high tide, in some of the most accessible places like the pier, it is completely underwater. The Corps of Engineers would be happy to help them restore the beach, but they don't want to make it public, which would be a requirement. So we walked along the riprap instead of in the sand. They also have some quite unusual modes of transportation there.
