Well, my weekend was a lot warmer than M and D's. Cody and Tim (a friend of his) came up from FSU for Mardi Gras weekend and we ended up going with the Zeta Psis and a bunch of my friends to Shopping Cart Day, where they turn fifteen shopping carts into rolling coolers full of beers and liquors of their choice and walk down St. Charles, stopping at a different location for each parade. I even have my Zeta Psi Krewe de Karte tshirt to prove it. The day began at nine in the morning (as did the drinking) and most everyone lasted til at least the second to last parade. Cody, Tim and I made it down to Canal, and peered down Bourbon, most of which was blocked by huge protest signs ('Why do YOU love Satan?'). We opted not to take the perilous trip down that street and instead started the long walk back to uptown--all in all we probably walked 15+ miles that day. We caught the last of the parades walking on the other side of St Charles and even got to see the street crew that comes by within seconds of the last float. Suddenly, pressure washing streetsweeper trucks and brightly dressed convicts appear out of nowhere and start cleaning up the disgusting mess that is Mardi Gras. It is said that they weigh the trash to determine how successful each year's Mardi Gras was--wouldn't surprise me. Finally, we reached campus, loaded with beads (that we all attained fully clothed) and fell asleep. The next day we headed back to Tallahassee where Simon met us and we hung out there for a couple days. It really is nothing but a college town--in fact you could even go all four years without ever needing to step off of campus, let alone go outside the city. Anyway, we drove down to St.Pete yesterday and spent the afternoon at the beach, in lovely 85 degree weather. No pictures yet--I was too afraid for my digital camera at Mardi Gras and we haven't taken any beach pictures yet. But of course, the minute there are pics, they will be up.
