End of Week One

Below is the completed block shell of the bottom floor. You can see the rough plumbing on the right for the bathroom and kitchenette. After the city approves the plumbing, they expect to be pouring the floor slab Tuesday. After that they will build a wood deck on top of the blocks and frame the upper story from there.

I'll post more pix at Ofoto tonight or tomorrow.

Moving on Out

Below is the progress on Day Four, which we all think is fairly impressive:

They've been doing a good bit of "rearranging" of the basement as well, to clear space for the laundry room they're going to build down there. There will also be a relocation of the hot water heater.

I'll post some more views at Ofoto and send you an invite.

They Started to Dig Today

The Weekend

Pamela went back to Tulane yesterday via Birmingham, after a long weekend of basement chores. The real workhorse in the basement was Simon, however, who spent a total of seven hours in that black hole. One of the most fun things there is to do is find a way to dispose of a wide variety of toxic materials that reside down there, from snail bait to herbicides to paint and varnish. The approved method of getting rid of paint is to fill any partial cans with kitty litter and let it soak up and dry up the remaining paint. You can imagine what a pain in the ass that is. This picture shows the back patio, which was used for paint-can-filling. It will also serve as a benchmark photo for when they begin to clear for construction.

It looks like Lili may be at least vaguely be heading in the direction of New Orleans again. Stay tuned.
