Drying Out

Hopefully over the next few days we can start to dry out enough for the construction to begin. It stopped raining today and there's no more forecast at least until Lili comes blowing up this way. Let's hope not. Evacuating Pamela could get to be an expensive proposition. She goes back to Tulane Sunday, from Birmingham. Simon is going to drive her over there for us, kind boy. We're traveled out this week.

As for the construction, when they do get started they will be basically skinning half the yard, from fence to fence and halfway back, taking out most of that nasty ivy and other growth. No big trees, but some sickly dogwoods will bite it, too. Then we'll relandscape after the construction is finished. Meanwhile this weekend we will continue the basement clean out. Joy.

Isidore

For those who may be wondering, Pamela has a seat on a Southwest flight out of NOLA tonight, to Birmingham, where we'll pick her up. So she gets another weekend at home thanks to Mother Nature. New Orleans is already wet and blustery this morning, but so far Tulane hasn't called it. That's OK; the Holland family has called it.

Basement Blues

The picture above shows my faithful assistant Simon, who spent his Sunday afternoon helping to clean out the basement and move a bunch of stuff to the storage space. Since this is the end of the day, you can see that although we accomplished much, much is left to be done. The storage space is almost full, so we've decided to put everything else in the basement in a big pile out back and set it afire. That's on tap for NEXT weekend.

It rained pretty much continuously all weekend, so we don't know when they'll begin digging up the yard. Hurry up and wait.

Construction Non-Report
For those of you who may be wondering about progress on the renovation of the house, there is none. After being dry all summer, we entered the driest part of the year, September-October, and the monsoons arrived. Since the bobcat apparently slips and slides on wet Georgia clay, they have postponed the site prep until it dries out a bit. Only problem is that it has been raining all weekend.

Mommy did a marathon up and back trip to Rock Hill yesterday to see Benjamin and take him a few things and got home safely last evening about 7:30, after driving through rain the whole way up and back. While awaiting the commencement of the work, we're trying to clean out the basement so they can work down there. If there is anything in the basement of yours that you think you might still want, you need to speak now. In my reconnoiter yesterday I saw at least two bicycles, a lot of clothing, several sets of golf clubs, and other miscellanea. Yes, Pamela, we will rescue your art supplies. We've moved inventory upstairs to one of the bedrooms temporarily. We're paying Simon to come over today and help us down there, including moving a bunch of stuff to a storage space over by the big Kroger.
